During the freedom struggle many states played their own role but Tamil Nadu played a very critical or crucial role. When British Government imposed rules against Hindu and Muslim soldiers, the sons of Tipu Sultan announced a mutiny named as Vellore mutiny. The Madras Native Association was formed under the leadership of Srinivas Pillai and Lakshminarasu Chetty to fight for the rights of the people. Journalist Subramaniya Siva fought for the freedom struggle and Vachinathan Iyer was the Independence activist.
