Sports men use shoes with spikes because they should have a grip to the surface while running . This us possible if and only friction is more . So by the spikes we can increase the friction and the obstacles may not occur .

This is because the amount of friction between the surface and their shoes increases with the help of spikes. This is to increase the friction so that they do not slip or fall while playing.
