AB^2=AD^2+BD^2
=12^2+16^2
=144+256
=400
=20^2
AB=20cm
therefore, areaof triangle ABC=1/2×base×height
=1/2×48×20
=24×20
=480cm^2
area of triangle ABD=1/2×base×height
=1/2×16×12
=8×12
=96cm^2
therefore, area of shaded region =area(triangleABC)-area(triangleABD)
=480-96
=384cm^2
