By remainder theorem

x-1=0
x=1

 {x}^{3}  - 2 {x}^{2}  + x - 1  \\  {1}^{3}  - 2 {(1}^{2})  + 1 - 1 \\ 1 - 2 + 1 - 1 \\  - 1
