x²+(-x)+(-4)= 0 ; comparing with ax²+bx+c = 0

a = 1 ; b = -1 ; c = -4

by sridharacharya formula,

x = -b±√(b²-4ac) /2a = [ 1 ±√(1+16)] /2 = 1 ± 4.13/2

•°• x = 5.13/2 , x = -3.13/3
