The first Indian personality featured on a postal stamp while still alive was Dr. Rajendra Prasad.

He was the first President of independent India and remained in office for two consecutive terms, from 1952 to 1962.

So he was honoured by issuing a portal stamp with his photo, on 7th April, 1962, while he was still alive and held the position of Indian President.
