Let the age of Jacob be x and that of his son be y
Now, according to the question,
x+5 = 3(y+5)
x+5=3y+15
x=3y + 10 ....(1)
Now,
five years ago,
x-5=7(y-5)
x-5 = 7y - 35
x= 7y - 30..... _(2)
Comparing (1) & (2)
3y +10= 7y - 30
30+10 = 7y - 3y
40=4y
y=10 years - age of Jacob 's son
x=3(10)+10= 30+10 =40 years - age of Jacob...
