About ten years ago, genetically modified organism {GMO} produced

Monsanto scientists inserted a toxin gene from the bacterium called Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis) into cotton plants to create a caterpillar-resistant variety.

The gene is DNA that carries the instructions for producing a toxic protein.

Account of BT cotton

Some strains of bacillus thuringiensis preoduce proteins that kill certain insects such as lepidoterans (e.g. Tobacco budworm) , coleopterans(e.g. beetles) and dipterans(e.g.Flies).

B. thuringiensis is a form of protein crystals during a special phase of their growth. These crystals contain a toxic insecticidal protein which binds to surface of midgut epithelium to create pores, thus swelling and lysis of cell, which causes death of the insect.
