Regulation of autonomic functions, including

* Body temperature

* Water Balance

* Metabolism

* Control of endocrine system

* Limbic system - emotional /  visceral brain ( sex, food, thirst, pain,  pleasure )

Mostly these function are done by hypothalamus

* The Diencephalon is located near the midline of the brain above the mid brain. like the cerebral  cortex , the diencephalon develops from the for brain vesicle , yet is more primative than the cerebral cortex.
