The ventricles of the brain are a communicating network of cavities filled with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and located within the brainparenchyma. The ventricular system is composed of 2 lateral ventricles, the third ventricle, the cerebral aqueduct, and the fourth ventricle (see the images below).

Ventricles in human brain:

Ventricles in human brain refer to the empty spaces guarded by the trilayer meninges. Ventricles are four in number in the human brain. The 1st two are called lateral ventricles, and rest two are named as third and fourth ventricles. All the ventricles are interconnected with each other, as well as with central canal of spinal cord.

The 1st two ventricles are connected with third ventricle by Foramen of Monro. The third ventricle is connected with fourth ventricle by aqueduct of Silvius. And, fourth ventricle is connected with spinal cord via the foramen Magnum.
