AHOY!!

we can clearly see that parallelogram ABCD and ACED have same base (AD) and same height. therefore their area must be equal (since parallelograms with same base and same height and same/equal area)

⇒ ar(ABCD) = ar(ACED)

now, in parallelogram ABCD, triangle ABC have same base as parallelogram ABCD and also same height. and we know that if a triangle and parallelogram and have same base and height , then area of the triangle is of the parallelogram.

∴ ar(ΔABC) = ar(ABCD)

similarly, ar(ΔADC) = ar(ABCD)

⇒ ar(ΔABC) = ar(ΔADC) = ar(ΔDCE) (∵ ΔDCE will be the half of parallelogram ACED as both have same base and height)

now it's given that area of ΔABC = 12cm^2

∴ area of the trapezium = ar(ΔABC) + ar(ΔADC) + ar(ΔDCE)

= 12 + 12 + 12

= 36cm^2

HOPE THIS HELPS!!
