within the lungs the trachea divides into smaller and smaller tubes which finally terminate in balloon like structure which are called alveoli . the alveoli provide a surface where the exchange of gases can take place. the walls of alveoli contain an extensive network of blood vessels.

Alveoli provide a surface extensively supplied with blood capillaries forexchange of gases in lungs.Carbon dioxide released in the cavity of alveoli and oxygen is taken by hemoglobin present in RBC of blood.
