How CBR method is useful to determine the thickness of component layers?

It is used for the evaluation of sub-grade strength of roads and pavements. The test is preformed by measuring the pressure required to penetrate a soil sample with a plunger if standard area. The results obtained by these tests are used with the empirical curves to determine the thickness of pavement and its component layers.
