The word Mansab indicates a place, a position, an, and a rank, which appeared to be an essential part of the complex Mughal bureaucracy.

The revenue of territory was obtained and deposited in the imperial treasury by Mansabdars. Depending on the rank Mansabdars was assigned the collection of wealth in lieu of wages in cash. The most area of the region was assigned to Mansabdars on the grounds of their rank. The estimated revenue from the region was called ‘jama o jamadari’ as it was estimated in ‘dam’.

Mansabdars in Mughal bureaucracy played chief role in maintaining the standing army and used to pay the salaries of the cavalry and military in cash from the collected revenue which was deposited in the royal treasury based on their rank.
