How is it possible that we inhale only oxygen from the atmosphere?

we inhale other gases also but they got purified through our lungs

We inhale all the gases in the atmosphere, but we only need the oxygen for breathing. We do use nitrogen in our cells though, to make up amino acids which in turn make up proteins. I hope that helps you.
