Suppose you go to a shop and ask them to give a pillow and pack it in as a gift. When your friend will touch it from outside he/she can say it is fluffy and soft even when she doesn't know what is inside
Now in the place of pillow imagine a geometry box. Your friend will say it is hard and rigid.
Now compare this situation with your question.
The particles inside a matter are same they are mere atoms but there packaging is different. Like in solids the atoms Are packed in such a way that there is no space for the atoms to move or go out of a solid boundary so the package comes into play which just makes everything complex!
Thank you
