The idea of Nationalism rose in India due to the following reasons:
The 1st world war:
- Led to huge increase in defense expenditure ehich was financed by war loans and high taxes.
- Customs duty was raised, income tax was introduced.
- Prices went up of and prices were doubled of things which made too much difficulty for normal people.
- Villages were called to supply soldiers, forced recruitment from rural area.
- Crop failure which resulted in acute shortage of food followed hy epimedic.
- People died.
- People thought that their hardships will end after the but that did not happen.
- At this stage a new leader appeared (Mahatma Gandhi) and suggested and new mode of sturggle.
