If the ends of a ruler are broken and the zero or any other mark cannot be seen clearly , avoid taking the measurement from zero or any other mark which is broken. Instead begin with any other full mark of the scale, say, 1.0 CM. Then, subtract the reading of this mark from the reading at the another end. For example if you begin at 1.0 and ends at 14.3 CM the length of the object would be:-
