Explanation => Ireland was a country deeply divided between the Catholics and Protestants. The English favoured the Protestants more and helped to establish their dominance over a large Catholic country. Catholic revolts against the British was surpressed and then failed. After a failed revolt led by Wolfe Tone and his United Irishmen in 1798, Ireland was forcibly incorporated into the United Kingdom in 1801.
