Equivalent weight of the divalent metal is given as 24 grams.
So,
actual weight of the metal= equivalent weight x 2 =48 grams
let the metal be M2+.

The equation of its reaction with an acid is,
   M  + 2HCl  ------------->   MCl2  +  H2

given that 12 grams of the metal M (that is 0.25 moles ) reacts to liverate H2 gas.

1 mole of metal liberates 22.4 litres of H2 gas at STP.

hence 0.25 moles liberates 5.6 litres of H2 gas at STP.
