Step-by-step explanation:

a+b=5

squaring on both sides

 {a}^{2}  +  {b}^{2}  + 2ab = 25

eqn 1

a-b=4

squaring on both sides

a²+b²-2ab=16 -------eqn 2

Adding eqn 1 and 2

2(a²+b²)=41

a²+b²=20.5

keep the above value in eqn 1

20.5+2ab=25

2ab=4.5

ab=2.25

hope this helps you

have a great day
