The number of pencils in the shop is 44.

  • The ratio of pens and pencils in the shop is 4:9.
  • The number of pens in the shop is 100.
  • Therefore,

\frac{Number \ of \ pens}{Number \ of \ pencils} = \frac{4}{9}

  • Now, finding the number of pencils in the shop ,

\frac{100}{Number \ of \ pencils} = \frac{4}{9}

Number of pencils = 4 × 100 ÷ 9

Number of pencils = 44.44

  • Therefore, the number of pencils in the shop is approximately equal to 44.
