In many flowers,the pistils and stamens reach maturity ot different times. How is it useful to plants?

it help plant in cross fertilization it is called xenogamy and overcome interbreeding depression as pistil and stamen reaches maturity at different time that is the condition called protogyny and protandry thus there are less chances of self pollination and more chances of cross pollination does having variability in the progeny
