In the prepration of sulphuric acid by contact process why is trioxide is not directly absorbed by water to form sulphuric acid

Actually it can .This is the way sulphuric acid is produced.First they burn Sulphur to produce Sulphur dioxide(SO2) then the So2 reacts with more oxygen to produce So3 and they react the So3 with sulphuric acid and water mixture to yeld more Sulphuric acid .The reason they dont dump the So3 in pure water is because the ...
