AnswEr:

Law of chemical combination containing two different laws.

  • Law of conservation of mass
  • Law of definite proportion.

\rule{200}2

According to law of conservation of mass,

" Mass can neither be created nor be destroyed in any balanced chemical equation. "

So,

Total mass of reactant = Total mass of product formed

Let's take an example :

\sf{CaCO_{3} \longrightarrow CaO + CO_{2}}

Here, 10 g of calcium carbonate breaks down to form x g of CaO and 4.4 g of carbon dioxide. So we have to find mass of CaO.

→ 10g = x + 4.4 g

→ x = 10 - 4.4

→ x = 5.6 g

That's how, we find the answer.

\rule{200}2

According to law of definite proportion,

" A given compound always contains atoms in the same ratio. "

Example :

Let's take a compound of water \sf{\red{H_{2} O}}

→ 1 ( 2 ) : 16

→ 2 : 16

→ 1 : 8

So, water must be contain hydrogen and oxygen in 1:8.

Laws of chemical combination

The composition of a substance changes during a chemical change. The fundamental experiments in this regard were performed by scientists in the 18th and 19th century. While doing this, they measured accurately, the substances used and formed and discovered the laws of chemical combination. Scientists could then write the molecular formulae of various compounds on the basis of Dalton’s atomic theory and the laws of chemical combination. we shall verify the laws of chemical combination by means of known molecular formulae.
