The origin of modern Golf is from Scotland in the year 1457.

However, where it was first started is still unclear. Historians are of different views and some say it originated in Rome, from a game called ‘Paganica’. Others say the game existed in China during the rule of Song dynasty (960 – 1279 ACE). Very old records mention a game where a bent stick is used to strike at a small stuffed ball.

In modern day Golf, a player has to hole the ball in the lowest number of strikes, which is known as ‘stroke play’. In team games, it is the lowest score on the most individual holes in a complete round by a team. This is known as match play.

A normal Golf course consists of 18 holes and the terrain varies according to location of the course.
