Crusoes are people left alone on a remote island or desert due to storm or shipwreck. In this poem the poet Robert Louis Stevenson writes about these solitary castaways who are surviving in remote areas by their self sufficient efforts. Crusoes building boats mean that these solitary survivors are building rescue boats on their own to sail across the river in search of new land!
