Becoz ice has a cage like structure in which there is a lot of space which helps the ice to float on water as it makes it less denser than the water ......

Ice is actually less denser than water, it's bcoz when temperature decreases the hydrogen-oxygen bond (H2O) in water spreads apart and it forms a rigid honeycomb structure which takes more space, so making it less denser..
