let bhawna's present age = x years

Mary's age = 3x

ATQ after 5 years,

bhawna's age = x+5

Mary's age = 3x + 5

x+5 + 3x + 5 = 2 (3x)

4x + 10 = 6x

2x = 10

x = 5

Let the present ages of the Mary = x.

Let the present ages of bhawna = y.

Given that Mary is 3 times as old as bhawna.

x = 3y   ----- (1).

5 years hence:

The age of mary = x + 5.

The age of Bhawna = y + 5.

Given that the sum of their ages 5 years from now will be twice mary's present age.

(x + 5) + (y + 5) = 2x.

x + 5 + y + 5 = 2x

3y + 5 + y + 5 = 2(3y)

4y + 10 = 6y

2y = 10

y = 5.

Substitute y = 5 in (1), we get

x = 3(5)

   = 15 years.

Therefore the age of Mary = 15 years.

                  the age of bhawna = 5 years.

Hope this helps!
