median = (n+1)/2
n=7,
so, median = (7+1)/2
=4th term= 12

Given,

Data sample: 24, 65, 85, 12, 45, 35, 15.

To find,

Median of the given data.

Solution,

We can solve this problem simply by using the process given below.

The median is defined as the middle number in a list of numbers that are sorted either in ascending or descending order. Or, the value of the middle observation obtained after sorting the given data in ascending or descending order, is called the median of the data.

For, an odd number of data, the median is the value of observation in the middle of the data. While, for an even number of data, the median is the average of two middle observations.

For the given problem, we have 7 values. It means an odd number of values. So, the median will be what we get at the middlemost position after arranging the data in ascending or descending order.

On arranging the data in ascending order, we get,

12, 15, 24, 35, 45, 65, 85.

As we can see the value of middlemost observation is

35.

⇒ Median = 35.

Therefore, the median for the given data will be 35.
