Metals are good conductors of heat and have high melting points, because -

• The metal particles are very closely packed with each other (which means less amount of distance between two particles) and that's why the heat energy easily travels from one particle to another particle in very less time.

For this reason, the metals are good conductors of heat.

And the melting points of metals are very high because -

• Similarly, the atoms of metal are bonded with each other by strong chemical bonds. Now,to melt these metals we have to break the strong chemical bonds of the metal which needs very high amount of energy. That's why the melting points of the metals are very high.

• For example, iron is an extremely good conductor of heat and the melting point of iron is more 1500°C which is very high.
