It is quite true Mr. Hall has been portrayed as meek character. If we say he has the characteristics of a henpecked husband, it won’t be wrong. It is because Mrs. Hall is more hardworking and meticulous than him. Mr. Hall has been portrayed as less significant partner to Mrs. Hall. He plays second fiddle to her. She is the owner of the inn, Coach and Horses. She is an astute business woman, dominating wife, and practical woman.

When it comes to making crucial decisions, it is she who makes them, and Mr. Hall has to accept them. Mr. Hall does not like Griffin from the very first impression and objects to letting him stay at the inn; but Mrs. Hall lets him continue to stay. Mr. Hall has to give in to her decision. After the ‘Furniture Went Mad’ incident, Mrs. Hall decides to oust Griffin out of the inn, Mr. Hall again has to comply with his wife’s decision.
