Rene Descartes, best known for A Discourse on Method, which attempted to justify the mathematization of the sciences, and the line “cogito ergo sum”, loosely translated as “I think therefore I am”, or in Monty Python, I drink, therefore I am. (a more accurate translation would be something like ‘thinking occurs, therefore something that thinks is.”, since the nature of neither the cogito nor the sum is actually questioned).
