The leaves of the banyan tree are large, leathery, glossy, green, and elliptical. Like most figs, the leaf bud is covered by two large scales. As the leaf develops the scales abscise. Young leaves have an attractive reddish tinge.

Banyan trees are largest among all trees. The older trees consist of aerial prop roots which mature in to reddish tinge. They are found almost in overall India. It is 'national tree' of India. Banyan trees are grown throughout the 'sub-Himalayan' region and deciduous.

It is ever greens tree. At time it can accommodate 10,000 people under its shade. The others names are Bargad, Bor, Ala, Pedda and Vad. Leaves are '10-20' cm long. White milky fluid oozes out of leaves. The well grown tree can cover several hectors.
