Step-by-step explanation:

Let the price of book be Rs x.

Number of books bought Rs. 168.

= 168/x

When the list price of the book is increased by Rs. 2, then

New list price of book = Rs (x + 2)

Number of books bought for Rs. 168.

= 168/x+2

Given, when the list price of the book is increased by Rs. 2, then the person can buy 2 less books.

∴ 168/x - 168/x+2 = 2

=> 168(x+2) - 168x/x(x+2) = 2

=> 168x + 336 - 168x/x²+2x = 2

=> 336 = 2(x²+2x)

=> 336 = 2x²+4x

=> 2x²+4x-336 = 0

=> 2(x²+2x-168) = 0

(Taking 2 common)

Thus, 2(x²+2x-168) is the required quadratic equation.
