Accumulation of Variation During ReproductionAll round us we see different organisms from the lowest forms to the highest. Species differ from each other. However, the variation we focus relates to the differences among individuals of a species. No two individuals are identical to each other. While we acquire a common body design, subtle changes are also inherited. Asexual reproduction produces identical offspring called clones. However, clones also differ due to small inaccuracies in DNA copying. If the DNA for the offspring comes from two parents, the differences will be more pronounced. We will soon find out why. What happens when the next generation produces offspring? These earlier differences will pass on to the next generation's offspring as well as the new ones they inherit from their parents.Do all these variations in individuals have the same chances of surviving differences in environmental factors like food, temperature, habitat change etc.? Quite evidently, different variations will give different advantages or disadvantages to individuals. Genetic changes that are heritable and environmental factors over time determine the variants that survive and those that do not.
