The capital city of the Nation has seen a transformation in its lifestyle and other sectors over the years.
The National Capital of India has flourished from minarets to buildings, rugged pavements to smooth roads, primary education to vocational studies, letters to emails, over a time span of 100 years. The journey has been an invincible and an irrevocable one, with extensive progress ever since it became the headquarter of all the war-related activities for Sultanate dynasty, the first Muslim invaders in India. The city has taken centuries to evolve into what it is today.
Delhi has grown at an enormous pace in the last 20 years. Let’s gauge at its transformation voyage:
Infrastructural Development
With the enshrinement of the LPG policy in 1991, (liberalization, globalization, and privatization)its lucrative economic growth and high rate of foreign investment, Delhi has seen a major infrastructural change. These developments has led the National Capital to compete with other mega cities of the world. Today, we have a modified and a better version of infrastructure which includes new roads, flyovers, bridges, healthcare facilities, sanitation, etc. The list doesn't end here. Developments have also been made in the areas of telecom, housing, power facilities, transportation etc.
Delhi Metro Rail: The Lifeline of Delhites
Metro rail service has indeed changed the transport facility of the city. All long-distance issues have been sorted out by it. The metro connectivity especially in remote areas has proved to be a blessing in disguise. With zero traffic issues, people to reach their respective destinations on time. The discipline of metro mechanism and time management has made Delhi Metro a huge success.
Delhi Airports
The evolution of Delhi Airports has been commendable over the years. All credit goes to the Ministry of Civil Aviation for bringing such changes. At present the aggregate number of Airports nation-wide is 125 comprising of domestic, international and custom airports under strict management and surveillance of the Ministry of Aviation.
One of the prominent airports in India is the Indira Gandhi International Airport. Situated in the National Capital Territory that serves as the Central Airport of the Capital, it has six terminals. Presently, people can easily reach IGI due to convenient roads, metros and rail connectivity and the new Airport Express Metro Line which has compressed distance and duration barriers is a great change.
Delhi Transport Corporation or the DTC
Delhi is where we find the world’s largest compressed natural gas bus service and it has come a long way since its inception in the year 1984. The use of CNG instead of fossil fuels has proved to be a beneficiary initiative to control the pollution level of the city. Apart from this, private buses in the form of Orange line and Red-line bus services have been helpful. The provision of low-floor buses is also quite beneficial.
Another initiative by the Government has been the Odd-Even formula to control pollution level and minimize traffic chaos. The Odd-Even formula has proved to be a great success ever since it began in January for 15 days, followed by Phase II in April.
Health-Care Sector
Delhi is one of those cities that provides the best medical facilities. There are a number of government as well as non-government organizations that offer health care facilities to people under the Directorate of Health Services (DHS). This includes government hospitals, private hospitals, dispensaries and nursing homes. The availability of good government hospitals has proved to be a great help for the poor as they provide health-care services with minimal charges or free-checkups. The government often organizes health-check up camps in slum areas.
Economy of Delhi
As per the economic survey between 2014-2015 the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of Delhi has increased up to 78%.
