Then x/2 by train. Now he travel 1/4 of rest distance by taxi so,

1/4 ☓ x/2 = x/8 by taxi

Journey remaining =

x/2 - x/8 = 3x/8

The 1/3 of left journey he travel by bus so,

1/3 ☓ 3x/8 = x/8 by bus

3 km by foot.

Then,

x/2 + x/8 + x/8 +3 = x (sum of journey

done by diff

x/2 + 2x/8 + 3 = x

x/2 + x/4 + 3 = x

2x + x + 12/4 = x

3x + 12 = 4x

x = 12 km

Total journey was 12 km.
