Game Cds purchased by Gautam =x²+8x-20

By splitting the middle term method :

x²+10x-2x-20=0

x(x+10)-2(x+10)=0


(x-2)(x+10)=0

Now x can be equal to 2 or -10 .

since x is the number of cds, hence it cant be negative.

Therefore x(cds purchased by Gautam)=2
Now,

the number of cds purchased by sanju =(x+4)²
using formula (a+b)²= a²+ b² +2a.b

(x+4)²=x²+16+8x

x²+16+8x

Equating to 0,to solve for x

x²+8x+16=0 (write in standard form)

by splitting the mjddle term (one can use quadratic formula too.)

x²+4x+4x+16=0

x(x+4) +4(x+4)=0

(x+4)(x+4)=0

x=-4,-4

since x are cds purchased by sanju ,it cant be negative.

hence cds purchased by sanju = 4

therefore ,

a) Sanju purchases more cds than gautam by 4-2=2
