There is a formula for the displacement (in y direction of a particle at x) of a progressive wave in positive x direction.

y = A Sin(wt - kx)
This is written in different forms using wavelength, wave number, time period etc.

Apparent frequency of a whistle depends if train approaches or leaves the observer.

Beats are the difference between two different sounds. Their difference must be less than 10Hz.
