Hi,
PDS distributes food to all the people in that region at less cost when compared to the other shops.So all the people , poor or rich are able to buy them. This way the people get food and are not deprived from them. They therefore are well nourished and won't get ill. 

But in places the PDS doesn't function properly,like the prices are more or even when the shopkeepers sell bad food. The people may get sick and their nutritional status is really bad..

Its telling the purpose of PDS shops that is where it is imp. Its imp in such states where basic things are not available to the people and also fulfill their nutritional demands at low rates.
