If the rain has not a regular feature of the place, then all of a sudden the pouring rain would not be welcome. But, if the quantity of rain increases gradually -- year after year -- then the effect of rain which increased in this manner would not cause such unexpected damage as would be case when it pours in quite an unexpected manner.
