The silkworms hatched from the eggs of the silk moth. These silkworms feed on fresh mulberry leaves the silkworm grows in size and then becomes a pupa. In the pupa stage, it weaves a net to hold itself. It then swings its head from side to side, secreting a fibre that hardens on contact with air. In pupa stage silk is obtained.

female silk moth lays eggs and then the larvae are hatched out of eggs known as caterpillars. they grown size and they enter in second stage called as pupa where they secrete fibre made up of preteen which when comes in contact of air and it hardens to become as silk fibre. after this the caterpillar completely covers itself by the fibre and turns into pupa. this covering is called as cocoon. the silkmoth further develops in the covering called cocoon. The silk fibre is obtained from this Silk moth's Cocoon stage.
