Hi ,

It is given that ,

x + 6/y = 6

=> x = 6 - 6/y ---( 1 )

3x - 8/y = 5 -----( 2 )

Substitute x = 6 - 6/y in equation ( 2 ),

we get

3( 6 - 6/y ) - 8/y = 5

18 - 18/y - 8/y = 5

- 26/y = 5 - 18

- 26/y = - 13

( - 26 )/( - 13 ) = y

2 = y

Put y = 2 in equation ( 1 ) , we get

x = 6 - 6/2

x = 6 - 3

x = 3

Therefore ,

x = 3 , y = 2

I hope this helps you.
