Given

  • Mass = 500 g
  • Initial Velocity = 54 km/h
  • Final Velocity = 0 m/s
  • Time = 6 sec

Solution

v = u + at

F = ma

Here we should first convert the units, the initial velocity should be converted to m/s and the mass of the body has to be changed to kg

Converting Units :

  • Mass = 500 g = 500/1000 = 0.5 kg

  • Initial Velocity = 54 km/h = 54 × 5/18 = 3 × 5 = 15 m/s

Acceleration of the body :

→ v = u + at

→ 0 = 15 + a × 6

→ 0-15 = 6a

→ -15 = 6a

→ -15/6 = a

→ Acceleration = -2.5 m/s²

Force Applied :

→ F = ma

→ F = 0.5 × (-2.5)

→ F = -1.25 N

  • Note that here the force would be against the motion and hence is -ve.

∴ Answer to the question is Option B
