ANSWER.

  • The area of the figure is 192 cm².

SOLUTION.

Refer to the attachment for the figure.

In ABCD,

→ AB = BC = CD = AD = 12 cm

So,

→ Area(ABCD) = 12 × 12 cm² = 144 cm²

Again,

ABCD is a square.

→ ∠ABC = 90°

→ ∠CBE = 90°

Therefore,

→ ∆CBE is a right angled triangle.

Similarly,

→ ∆ADF is a right angled triangle.

→ Area(∆CBD) = Area(∆ADF) = 1/2 × Base × Height.

Here,

→ Base = 4 cm.

→ Height = 12 cm.

Area of each triangle = 1/2 × 4 × 12 cm²

= 24 cm²

Total area of the figure,

= Area of square + Sum of areas of two triangles

= (144 + 24 + 24) cm²

= (144 + 48) cm²

= 192 cm²

Hence, Option C is the correct answer.
