hello friend...

let the cost of pencil be X
then, the cost of pen would be 3X
now,
a/q
3X - X = 32
2X = 32
X = 16

so the cost of pencil is ₹32
and cost cost of pen is 3X = 3 × 16 = ₹48

hope you understand...
best of luck...

\textbf{Answer}

\textbf{Lets suppose that,}
Cost of a pen = x Rs.
&
Cost of a pencil = y Rs.

Since the difference of the cost of a pen and pencil is Rs 32,
=> x - y = 32 --------(1)

\textbf{General form of linear equation} in \textbf{two variables -}
\textbf{ax + by + c = 0}

So we can write the equation (1) in linear form as,
\textbf{x - y - 32 = 0}

\textbf{According to the question,}
Cost of a pen is thrice the cost of a pencil,
=> x = 3y

\textbf{Lets put x as 3y in equation (1),}

x - y = 32
=> 3y - y = 32
=> 2y = 32
=> \textbf{y = 16}

Since x = 3y
=> x = 3×16
=> \textbf{x = 48}

\textbf{Cost of a pen = 48 Rs.}
\textbf{Cost of a pencil = 16 Rs.}
\textbf{Linear expression is x - y = 32}

\textbf{Thanks}
