The refractive indices of alcohol and turpentine oil with respect to air are 1.36 and 1.47 respectively. Find the reflective index of turpentine oil with respect to alcohol. Which one of these will permit the light to travel faster?

n= refractive index

(oil )n (alchol)=
(turpentine oil)n/n(alcohol)
=1.47/1.36 = 1.08 
hence refractive index of alcohol is less than refractive index of turpentine oil , light will travel faster in the alcohol
