Thiophenols caused conversion of oxyhemoglobin to methemoglobin. Reduction of corresponding disulfides by intracellular glutathione caused cyclic reduction/oxidation reactions, resulting in increased oxidative flux. ... Methemoglobin formation increased with increasing level of oxidative stress.
