When water is added to calcium oxide (quicklime), it will be converted to calcium hydroxide (slaked lime) with the liberation of enormous amount of heat.

CaO+H₂O=Ca(OH)²+heat

It is an exothermic reaction.

Calcium hydroxide is an alkali.

The elements are chemically combined to each other.

The elements combine together to form compounds, and it can be only done in specific proportions.

When you add water to calcium oxide ie; quicklime, it will be converted to calcium hydroxide that is slaked lime.

This liberates  enormous amount of heat.

CaO + H2O = Ca(OH)2 (s)

It is an combination reaction.
